Why Base Yourself in Galway City
Galway City punches well above its size. It's compact — you can walk the historic core in twenty minutes — but it has one of the most concentrated music and food scenes in Ireland. The Latin Quarter (the medieval lanes around Quay Street and High Street) is alive most evenings of the week, with traditional sessions in places like Tig Cóilí and The Crane Bar that have been pulling musicians for decades.
What makes Galway City special as a base is connectivity. The Aran Islands ferries leave from Rossaveal or Doolin, both reachable by bus from the city. Day-tour coaches for Connemara, the Cliffs of Moher and Kylemore Abbey all pick up in the centre. The trains from Dublin arrive at Eyre Square.
